General Description
History

The Department of Turkish Language and Literature was one of the first departments in the Faculty of Science and Arts, which was established in association with the Black Sea Technical University, by government Charter dated 01.09.1997, number 9892, published in 3 September 1997, and numbered 23099. The Department was fully establishment in 2007-2008 and admitted students onto a Bachelor Degree program, with it’s first students graduating in 2010-201. Now postgraduate courses are available. The Departmant of Turkish Language and Literature consists of 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 2 teaching assistants and 6 research assistants.

Qualification Awarded

The students who complete the programme successfully receive a Bachelor Degree in the field of Turkish Language and Literature.

Student’s acceptance to the programme is explained in detail under the Student Acceptance and Registration Procedures of the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University’s Regulations for Examinations and Education of Associate and Bachelor’s Degree.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Recognition of prior formal learning in a Turkish higher education institution and vertical, undergraduate and interuniversity transfers occur within the context of “Regulations Related Principals of Transition Between Programmes of Associate and Bachelor Degree, Double Major, Sub-specialty and Inter-institution Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institution” which is determined by the Council of Higher Education. The recognition process of non-formal certificate or experience based learning from informal educational institutions in Turkey is still in its infancy. So acceptance of former learning has not been started in all the programmes of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University. An English proficiency exam is organised at the every beginning of the academic course. Students, who consider themselves suitably qualified may apply for exemption from certain courses.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To complete all lectures successfuly with an (equivalent 240 ACTS totally) and to havea minimum grade point average of 2.00 over 4.00 is required in order to graduate.

Profile of The Programme

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature, has been developing since 2007,and consists of the following areas: Old Turkish Language, Classical Turkish Literature, Modern Turkish Literature, Modern Turkish Language, Modern Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Turkish Folk Literature. The aim of the department is to educate personnel with the ability to undertake high quality research in the fields of Turkish language, literature, folklore and culture. To carry out extensive examination and research regarding their area of expertise. A wide dissemination of the culture and language of the Turkish peoples, both within Turkey and beyond are examined according to the specialisms of the various departments.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates can work in academic areas lsuch as aTurkish Language lecturer, research assistant, Turkish Language specialist in universities. or find business opportunities in public institution l for instance the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Turkish Radio and Television Association, Libraries, Archives, in private institutions, in press and advertisement arenas.

Access to Further Studies

Applicants, who have completed a Bachelo Degree successfully, may continue onto a postgraduate programme in their own fields or in other fields they are interested in, and by acquiring an acceptable score in ALES, or having an adequate knowledge of a foreign language (ÜDS and equivalent tests).

Facilities

The Department has 13 academics -1 professor, 2 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 2 teaching assistants, 6 research assistants, and one administrator in the Departmant of Turkish Language and Literature. There are 3 classrooms with a computer and overhead projector, and a seminar hall. There is a university central library which the department members can benefit from as well as Internet access.
