Sports Facilities and Leisure Activities
The extracurricular activities are provided by the Directorate of Health Culture and Sports. The students can engage in cultural and fine arts activities through the courses offered by this directorate about folklore, music, theatre, poetry readings, and sports. Students are encouraged to open music clubs, found choirs, drama clubs and the like. They are encouraged to give concerts, stage plays, open exhibitions outside as well as inside the university. The students participating in such activities and representing our university nationally and abroad are rewarded at the end of the academic year.
Rize, the so-called “ capitol of rain”, is very advantageously located for activities such as rafting, skiing , trekking , canoeing and paragliding. With its incomparable green plateaus, historical archways and castles, floating rivers it offers unique opportunities for these activities.
Facilities For Cultural Activities
The Sports Complex: With its 6000 m2 space, it is used for the sports and conditioning exercises of the students and staff as well as the traditional sports championships, concerts and other cultural and social activities.
The Synthetic Football Pitch: The 1250 m2 football pitch is leased to students, the academic staff, the staff and guests. The Faculties, Institutes and Applied Schools have also their own sports facilities.
Activities
The Academic Year Opening Ceremony: This ceremony takes place at the beginning of the academic year. The ceremony starts with the academic staff paying tribute to Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, by putting a wreath at the Atatürk Monument at the city centre and paying homage by a moment of silence. The meaning of the opening of the academic year is then enhanced by an eminent person‘s giving the opening lecture.
The Graduation Ceremony
It is one of the most important activities of The Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University. Those students who have completed the academic programme with success are given their diplomas; those graduating with honors are variously rewarded. The students’ families and the prominent people of the city are also invited to partake in the festivities.
The Cultural and Sports Activities
The traditional Spring Festival is carried out in May. Contributing to the cultural and social life of the city, the students actively partake in sports championships, conferences, panels, theatre, dance shows, stand-up shows, concerts, films and slide shows. Opening stands and tournaments are other activities aiming at the recreation of the students.
