Profile of The Programme

The Department of Mathematics consists of Analysis and Functions Theory, Applied Mathematics, Topology, Algebra and Numbers Theory, and Geometry. The purpose of the Mathematics Department is to teach the analysis and development of principles, methods and systems of mathematics in accordance with the purposes of Turkish National Education and their mutual relations, and to deliver education on the application of the principles and methods in scientific and technological fields. So a good mathematician with a modern level of scientific thinking skills and research capabilities, internalizing the universal and national values besides the practice of his/her profession, respectful to the human rights and ethical values, beneficial to self, family, nation and humanity is aimed at. Besides analysis, abstract mathematics, physics, differential equations, algebra, differentail geometry, real analysis, complex analysis, topology, functional analysis, professional English and computer sciences and programming languages such as Qbasic , Matlab, Visual Basic, Fortran, and Pascal, which maybe required for their future professions.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Mathematics has a broad application since it is closely related to physics, biology, social sciences and economics. Graduates have a wide range of work opportunities in the public and private sectors. Graduates may work as mathematics teachers in secondary education institutions and courses if they graduate from a secondary education teaching certificate programme. Graduates may also work as a teacher in the fields of statistics, astronomy and space sciences if they are seen as suitably qualified by the department. Some mathematicians work in public institutions, DİE, MTA, TEK, DSİ, some work in private institutions as computer programmer, controller, actuarial specialist and auditor. Today, many mathematicians work in the banking sector. A successful university graduate is often appointed to Lecturer and Research Assistant position.
