General Description
History

The Department of Georgian Language and Literature was established by Cabinet Decree dated 19 January 2012, numbered 28261 which was published in the Official Gazette of Turkish Republic in 11 April 2012, numbered 28261. The department completed its establishment in 2012, and accepted first bachelor students in 2016-2017 academic year. The Department of Georgian Language and Literature have 1 professor, 1 associate professors, and 1 assistant professor. Our department continues to teach at the level of bachelor degree.

Qualification Awarded

The students who succesfully complete the programme receive a Bachelor Degree in the field of Georgian Language and Literature.

Specific Admission Requirements

Acceptance to the programme is explained in detail under the title, the Student Acceptance and Registration Procedures of the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University’s Regulations for Examinations and Education of Associate and Bachelor’s Degree.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Recognition of prior formal learning in a Turkish higher education institution and vertical, undergraduate and interuniversity transfers are conducted within the context of “Regulations Related Principals of Transition Between Programmes of Associate and Bachelor Degree, Double Major, Sub-specialty and Inter-institution Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions” which is determined by the Council of Higher Education. The recognition process of non-formal certificate or experience based learning from informal educational institutions in Turkey is still in its infancy. Therefore, acceptance of former learning has not been started in all programmes of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University yet. An English proficiency exam is held at the beginning of each academic term. Students who consider themselves qualified may apply for the examination and those who pass the exam are exempt from related courses.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Completing all the courses to be taken in the program succesfully (240 ECTS credits) by having a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 is required for graduation.

Profile of The Programme

Teaching since 2015, the objective of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Georgian Language and Literature programme is to raise qualified individuals that can do resarches in the fields of Georgian language, folklore, literature and culture, and to introduce the researches via publications, conferences, seminars. The courses taught at the department inform the students of certain literary figures and works from the beginning of Georgian written language to the present, and introduce the examples of historical and contemporary Georgian dialects written by various alphabets.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates can work in academic areas lsuch as Georgian Language lecturer, research assistant, Georgian Language specialist in universities.Also,they find business opportunities in public institutions such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Turkish Radio and Television Association, Libraries, Archives, in private institution, press and advertisement arenas.

Access to Further Studies

Applicants who successfully complete Bachelor Degree may continue to a postgraduate programme in their own fields or in other fields they are interested in by acquiring an sufficient score in ALES, or having an adequate knowledge of a foreign language (YDS and equivalent tests).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student has to take a midterm and a final exam for with contributions of 40% and 60% subsequently. All exams are assessed out of 100 points. Obtaining 45 points from the final end of term exam is obligatory. Students who have the grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) from one lesson are considered successful. At the end of each semester, students can take make-up examinations from all courses belonging to the semester.

Facilities

The Department has 4 academics -1 professor, 1 associate professors, 1 assistant professors, and one administrator in the Department of Georgian Language and Literature. There are 3 classrooms with a computer and overhead projector, and a seminar hall. There is a central library and internet connection in the university from which the department members can benefit.
