FACULTY OF ENGINEERING - Geological Engineering - Lisans
| General Description | |
HistoryThe Department of Geological Engineering was founded within the Faculty of Engineering, on April 15, 2011, according to the decision of the Council of Ministers on 04.04.2011, which was dated back to 28.03.1983 with a law number 2809.
Qualification AwardedThe students who graduated from the Department of Geology are awarded with a Bachelor Degree in the field of Geology.
Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle)Specific Admission RequirementsThe students who wants to enroll on to the Department of Geological Engineering should have a high school diploma and adequate score from the Student Selection Examination (OSS).
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)Recognition of prior learning is at the beginning stage in the Turkish Higher Education System. However, an exemption exam for the English courses are held at the beginning of each ecademic term. The students who have complated the learning process for these courses on his / her own study, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the cirriculum.
Qualification Requirements and RegulationsTo be able to secure the bachelor's degree in the field of Geology (and thus title of Geological Engineer) the students are required to (a) have passed all courses in the curiculum with a grade of at least DC form the, (b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, (c) completed the compulsory practical placement period of 60 days at least at two diferent places and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements, (d) prepared a graduation thesis, submitted and successfully defended with a passing grade.
Profile of The ProgrammeRecep Tayyip Erdogan University Department of Geological Engineering has a curriculum programme to exploration and exploitation of natural resources in the region and to produce a solution to the geological problems such as natural disasters in the region. The cirriculum was created to achieve these objectives through studies in general geology, mineralogy-petrography, geochemistry, mineral deposits and applied geology. In addition to compulsory courses, the students are given the chance of taking courses (25% of the total number of courses) from the list of elective courses based on their own preferences which maket he programme flexible from the studets’ perspective.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With ExamplesThe graduates of the geology department has many opportunities of employment in a varitey of state and private companies. The main state companies where they can work include the Mineral Research and Exploration Institute (MTA), Turkish Petroleum and municipalities (TPAO), State Water Works, General Directorate of Motorways (TKİ), majority of the graduates find jobs in private sector engaged mainly in mineral exploration and extraction companies as well construction companies working on tunnels, roadworks and dams. There are also cases where the graduates setup up their own jobs manly in the field of drilling and soil investigation.
Access to Further StudiesThe students who have successfully graduated from the department may apply to post graduate programmes in the field of geology in the other universities providing adequate score from the Acedemic Postgraduate Axamination (ALES). In addition students also may apply to post graduate programmes of other fields, accepting students from the field of geology.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and GradingEach course is assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 40% and 60% respectively. However, the case is deemed necessary by the instructor for the course during the semester working on, are evaluated.
