HistoryThe first facility of The Fisheries faculty was 170 m2 after its establishment in 11.07.1992.The first students arrived in 1994-1995. At that time there were 15 staff in the Faculty. Moving to the main campus in 2002, the department was given 5000 m2., and a Master degree programme commenced. The Faculty has a unique programme, with a staff of 37, and every year welcoming 30 students.
Qualification AwardedThe Bachelor Degree in Fisheries Engineering ( first cycle in Fisheries Engineering) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.
Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle)Specific Admission RequirementsThe general requirements are explained in the “General Admission Requirements” of Information in the Institution part are applicable for admission of students.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Successful vocational school graduates wishing to continue their education in order to obtain a Bachelor Degree. If they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) they are are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of the courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, so the Department is no exception.
Qualification Requirements and RegulationsStudents must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The ProgrammeFaculty of Fisheries was founded in order to train researchers and technical people with a technological knowledge in Marine and Freshwater Sciences, Fisheries and Aquaculture areas, and to carry out research and write for publications. Besides the theoretical knowledge imparted to students, it also aims to provide useful services to our fishing and aquaculture sector. The Faculty aims to identify the problems related to fishermen and aquaculture enterprises in the area and provide solutions to solve their problems, and carry out extensive investigations. So, the Faculty established a close relationship between the fishermen and producers, which allows for cooperation in the region. To produce the necessary information to access the planned production goals, to develop methods and provide knowledge in the fisheries sector is seen as an important function of the Faculty. In addition to general knowledge, there are professional compulsory courses and elective courses based on student preference. Faculty graduates become qualified people who can identify problems and produce solutions related to fisheries based on individually or in groups based on inter-disciplinary.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With ExamplesGraduates of Fisheries Faculty can work at government and private industry institutions and farms including various units of the Ministry of Agriculture, fisheries businesses and aquaculture farms.
Access to Further StudiesThe graduates holding a Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and GradingSuccess in a course is determined by applying 40% of the mid-term exam and 60% of the final exam. In addition pre-determined individual activities for each course are added to the grades at determined ratios.
