Short Cycle Programmes (Associate's Degree)
General Description

Department of Chemistry and Chemical Process Technology was founded as an unit within the Vocational School of Technical Sciences in 2016. The Chemical Technology Program started to accept students in 2016-2017 academic year by welcoming 40 regular students.

Qualification Awarded

Students who provides all requirements of Chemical Technology Program and fulfills 8 week internship receives "Associate Degree" with "Chemical Technician" title.

The acceptance of students to the program is regulated by Article 7 of the "The Education and Training Examinations Guideline of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University".

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

As stated in Article 10 of the "The Education and Training Examinations Guideline of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University", acceptance of studens from other Higher Education Institutions is regulated by "Regulation on the Principles of Course Transfer between Higher Education Establishments at Graduate/higher education and undergraduate levels, Dual majors, Minors, and ECTS Transfer" (Official Gazette, 24/4/2010 27561) and University Senate.

Profile of The Programme

Chemical Technology Program prepairs students to gain an understanding of the fundamentals of chemistry, instrumental analysis with emphasis on laboratory techniques and application. Students as chemical technicians also gain skills to solving production process problems and critical thinking that they need in industry.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduate students have a wide range of business opportunities in industry. Chemical Technicians has an important role in each production stage and the product control. The quality control of the produced materials or foods is carried out by chemical tecnicians. Graduates employment areas in private are follows the agricultural industry, food industry, paint industry, pharmaceutical industry, leather industry, glass industry, textile industry, the cleaning industry, paper industry, private laboratories, quality control laboratory, the production of chemicals, polymers. Graduates can work as manager in charge in two chemistry business that has lower power than 60 HP (horsepower). Graduates can be also employed in public by passing KPSS exam applied by OSYM.

Access to Further Studies

Students having successfully completed their Associate Degree, can be admitted to a Bachelor's degree program in departments of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Chemistry and Process Engineering and Polimer Engineering on condition that they get the required score from DGS (Vertical Transfer Exam) condcuted by OSYM.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading are follewed by The Education and Training Examinations Guidelines of Recep Tayyip erdoğan University. On the condition that is announced in course plan, each course can assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 40% and 60% respectively.

Graduation Requirements

To be graduated from Chemical Technology Programme, students must have passed from all core courses as well as must have 120 ECTS Credits with adequate number of elective courses. The grade point average must be at least 2.00 over 4.00. Moreover, student must also complete 40 workday internship.

In order to carry out theoretical courses, 3 classrooms which have adequate technical equipments are assigned in Vocational School of Technical Sciences (TBMYO) Yeni Ek Bina Block D. In order to carry out laboratory courses, a laboratory which has 214 m2 main and 23,8 m2 additional workplace is assigned in TBMYO. There are two ventilation line with 2250 m3/h power and also a hood with 1300 m3/h power. There are also adequate chemical storage facilities, 12 laboratory benches allowing 48 students to work seperately.
